I wanted a place where I could start writing about our family and learning about blogging. I was born on May 26, 1944 in Escanaba, Michigan. I could have been born in Texas or Mississippi but my grandmother, Jane Vanderlinden took the train from Escanaba to Mississippi to help drive my mother, Leona Rosella Vanderlinden Wick home. My father, Vernon Carl Wick had left that area as he was in the army and being shipped to Europe.
I have a fear of water and was told they drove through states that were flooded. We lived in the Escanaba area for approximately two years while dad was in the army. He was in the 733rd field, they have a neat blog with pictures and stories about where they fought and traveled. He went over on the Queen Mary which is now in Long Beach, California and came back on the sea porpoise.
Upon his return he built us a home in Cornell on acreage he purchased over the years. according to newspapers articles he was farming potatoes within a few years. The house had one bathroom and two bedrooms, kitchen and living room, with a big basement. He was painting something green and not use to watching a young child, I stepped in the can with new white shoes. They added a bedroom and living room later turning the old living room into a dining room. it was a comfortable home. It is hard to believe when I calculate the time from when it was built to when they moved it was less than twenty-five years.
My brother, Carl Joseph was born June 6, 1947. He lives on property close to where the above house is and still owns some of the original land.
